Yoshinori Kimbara

kimbaraYoshinori Kimbara, former director of Yamaha Corporation, passed away on September 3 at the ag of 92. Joined Yamaha (Nippon Gakki Seizo at the time) in 1947, Kimbara was one of the masterminds to initiate first music teaching lesson program by the company, which eventually led to Yamaha Music Teaching School. He also spearheaded launch of Yamaha Music Foundation through extensive communication with the government authorities, and served as the first president of the organization.

Even after retirement from Yamaha, he remained an industry observer keeping passionate and keen eyes on the industry growth. He often contacted Japan Music Trades when something important developed in the industry for detailed information.

Kimbara used to say, “You can find their needs asking 100 out of 1,000 people. Find what customers want and feed their requirement back to suppliers. It’s the very basic standing of musical instrument manufacturers. It’s critical that you are always concerned about people. When it comes to corporate business, the management should have definite objectives or goals for the future.” He pursued his interest in the industry throughout his life.

Funeral services were given on Sept. 6 and 7 at Catholic Church Archdiocese of Tokyo Sangen-jyaya Church attended by around 400 people
