1st Shigeru Kawai International Piano Competition

Kawai organized 1st Shigeru Kawai International Piano Competition in August. The company has staged Kawai Music competition for more than 50 years with approximately 20,000 entries every time. The contestants are largely students of Kawai Music Courses from young children to adults in their 20s. 3 years ago, the competition added S Course for senior high-school students and upper age pianists.

In celebration of 90th anniversary of Kawai this year, the company halted the S Course to start 1st Shigeru Kawai Piano Competition.
The first session drew 351entries from 25 countries and areas including 172 from overseas. The judges commented their performance level was exceptionally high.

What makes Shigeru Kawai International Piano Competition different from other competitions? Masakazu Kusaka, Executive Managing Director of Kawai says, “It’s a small competition organized by a single piano manufacturer. We simply want to increase awareness of Shigeru Kawai grand pianos, offer a performing stage for budding pianist, and support them begin musical career.”

2nd Competition will be organized in August, 2018.
