2014 Musical Instruments Fair Japan Delivered Visitors Fun of Music Making

MIF2014_1298The 3-day consumer musical event closed on Nov. 23 in success drawing remarkable 40,647 visitors. Re-engineered after 3 years of extensive planning with renewed concepts, new regulations and at an international-level convention hall, the music products industry welcomed the musicians of all levels and music enthusiasts with seamless musical entertainment programs, hands-on sessions, new products presentations and demonstrations at a public space as well as in exhibitor booths. On the weekend, huge crowds made a long queue at the entrance before the open time. They all demonstrated the visitors pleasure of music and music making.

 

MIF2014_382Drummers’ Paradise was one of the most popular events which invited drummers to experience a total of 31 acoustic drum sets offered by 9 leading drum manufacturers at one single partitioned space separately staged from the exhibit floor. It was the program first materialized to provide the drummers with an environment to enjoy full acoustic drum sounds without worrying sound level.

 

 

MIF2014_534In addition to a total of 124 exhibitors and 5 groups, the fair organizer first invited 37 music retailers to sell music products directly to consumer. As one visitor pointed, it looked to be a fun experience being able to buy what they were interested in at the exhibitor booths. The 3-day sales by the retailers were reportedly 74 million yen. Whether the sales were satisfactory for the retailers or not is uncertain, however, the concept selling consumers directly on the fair site was widely supported by the exhibitors. If there is one point to say, the Fair Executive Committee members commented that the retailer sales section and regular exhibit area are not clearly identified for the visitors. Thus, it caused a minor frustration among the retailers.

 

All in all, the first experiment to sell consumer directly at the Fair site was well accepted among the retailers and the visitors, and the retailers made a positive comment on continuation in the years ahead. As in the past, 12 companies and groups staged an outlet mall for bargain hunters.

 

MIF2014_831Big Sight, the new home to 2014 Musical Instruments Fair Japan, was regarded favorably among the exhibitors. They appreciated benefits of its location in the biggest market in Japan, easy transportation from nearby cities and international airports, hotel accommodation as well as the exhibit capacity and overall facilies of the site.

 

The music products market remains flat after the consumption tax hike in April, but it’s sure that the industry people were greatly encouraged with emphatic visitors and their vigorous interest in tools for music making filled every aisle of the Fair site. Hopefully, the good atmosphere and optimism continue to the holiday season and next year.
