Kawai and Gakken Team in Teaching Studio Operation

Kawai Musical Insts. Mfg. and Gakken Holdings announced on Feb. 26 that both companies had agreed to cooperate in education business.

Under the new scheme, Kawai opens Gakken Educational teaching studios for common subjects at the existing music teaching studios. As the first step, Kawai and Gakken open 4 Gakken studios in Saitama and 1 in Hamamatsu at the Kawai locations in April, and plan to expand the studio network in Tokyo metropolitan area through the summer. By the end of the year, 30 operations will be completed with 1,000 students enrollment throughout Japan.

Combining Gakken teaching studios for math and Japanese, and Kawai music teaching studios under one roof makes children and parents easier and more convenient to learn multiple subjects at one single location. Kawai runs Gakken studio operation at the existing Kawai music teaching studios, with teaching materials provided by Gakken Educational.

Educational industry faces increasing challenges as birthrate declines and educational needs change these years. Kawai and Gakken have reached an agreement to explore new businesses in this segment sharing know-how, teaching materials, educational services and marketing strategies of each other.

Based on the agreement, the two companies work together sharing studio locations and teaching materials, and cooperating in senior market providing care homes for the elderly with senior programs, and developing new services.

In the future, the alliance of the two companies is expected to expand to broader businesses not only in Japan but also overseas markets providing senior customers with opportunities to enjoy music making and social studies.
