Tokyo International Music Festival In May, 2018

Tokyo International Music Festival Steering Committee staged a preliminary event at Tokyo Big Sight East Promenade on May 5 and 6.

Being the unprecedented musical event crossing over broad musical genres from classical and traditional music, jazz to pops, amateurs or professionals, it was planned about 2 years ago, but postponed because of political doldrums followed by election of the Governor of Tokyo. photo: YOKOHAMA ROBINS marching band performs on the 1st day.

According to the committee spokesman, the preliminary event project took off finally at the latter part of last year, and the committee got into work early this year. Accordingly, low profile and awareness of the initial event impacted the total attendance. However, the organizer expressed high expectations for the future sessions as they got total support from the related people and associations.

Despite limited time for preparation, it successfully organized 18 concerts, 14 clinics and 2 symposiums during the 2 days.

The first Tokyo International Music Festival takes place from May 4 through 6 at the same venue in 2018 in much expanded scale including competitions, international conferences and music products exhibition in addition to concerts and clinics.
